Regalia - May 2009

Note To Reader: Merriam-Webster Defines this as

1: royal rights or prerogatives

2 a: the emblems, symbols, or paraphernalia indicative of royalty b: decorations or insignia indicative of an office or membership or

3: special dress

Additional Note to Reader: Definition #3 is the one we’ll be using today, except it’s not really a “dress”, but rather a special “outfit” for a special occasion.

Today the Hub added this to his wardrobe. He refused to model it for the blogesphere before the big day, but alas, those pictures will come soon enough, like it or not.

So back to the outfit…

This fancy robe will be his attire for pretty much the biggest event in our lives since we got married 4 years ago. Now as I sit with my laptop amidst the box fort we're building in the dining room I'm not quite sure where the time has gone. As a warning the next several posts will be full of heart felt goodbyes to my family and friends, because it's really not healthy to keep all that inside, but I digress...

For now, I find humor in the fact that on Friday my Hub will be, according to Merriam-Webster, wearing a "special dress" on his special day!

Till next time,
Bon Voyage!

A Love Letter to My Dream Computer - May 2009

Dearest iMac,

I hope this letter finds you well. I wanted to take a quick moment to let you know that I've been dreaming of you. Since the moment we met, I knew we had a connection.

I know that my actions in the last 2 years haven't proven my love for you, with the whole purchasing a PC thing, but you can't take this as an indication of my genuine affection towards you. You are where my computer heart lies!

For about 4 years now I've admired you through shop windows and have watched your popularity grow. Sometimes the only times I get to see you are in the commercials on apple.com, which makes me feel like a total stalker. I've watched as your screens got bigger and your processors have grown stronger. And here I am patiently waiting for my turn.

I need you to know that you are the computer of my dreams, and even though it may take a little longer than either of us wants to wait, I will make this dream a reality. Until then we'll have to survive on love, and being able to admire each other from a far. We'll have to embrace these chance encounters in dark computer labs and there's always the utopia of the apple store.

With all my computer love! - Wandering Lili

Till next time,
Bon Voyage!

Grinning From Ear to Ear – Buffalo, NY - May 2009

So one of the hazards of living out of a suitcase is that you inevitably end up leaving something behind. Sometimes it’s a small s"omething" that can be picked up along the way, like contact solution or Q Tips. Every once in a while it’s a big "something" (even if it is small in size) that you need shipped to you, overnight, with AM delivery, which takes senior level approval, like… I don’t know, maybe a laptop cable. Then there are things that you wish you brought, but you really can justify buying. This is where I was today.

Note To Reader: I must first step back and tell you that ever since my 4th grade field trip to the circus, where the popular group of kids teased me relentlessly for wearing coin clip on ear rings, (they’d all recently gotten their ears pierced, so the clip on kind were no longer cool), I’ve had a love affair with earrings (the pierced kind). Not crazy designs, just simple ones. I don’t have that many pairs, but the ones that I do have I love.

This brings me to today when in the car on the way to the airport I discovered that I’d not only forgotten to put on my watch, which was on my bed side table, I’d forgotten to pick up a simple pair of small silver hoops that would go with everything I would be wearing during my week in Buffalo. I was sad but figured that if that was the only thing I’d forgotten than I was in pretty good shape.

Fast forward about 4 hours to me unpacking in my hotel room and look what I found residing deep within my wheeled laptop bag.

EMERGENCY EAR RINGS!!!

The crazy part is that I remember putting these in my bag when I left Dallas last fall. I put the bag away for the winter while I was using a smaller red laptop tote and completely forgot about them.

What a great surprise!!! Now me and my happy ears are gonna go get something to eat!

Till next time,
Bon Voyage!

I Made This!!! - May 2009

So there's been a box of Funfetti cake mix in the pantry for a couple of weeks now and today, with a few hours on my hands I decided I'd bake.

Note to Reader: This baking in my spare time is NOT normal.

So a little back ground is that I got a pampered Sheff Icing gun a few months back along with a couple of round baking pans. The Hub and I have sort of been splitting the duties of cake creation.

This one is one of our first, and all I remember about it was that there were about 4 different icings on it because:

A.) We couldn't agree on one,

and

B.) We ran out and the store nearest our house didn't have the kind that we started with.

But as the Hub napped on the couch and absorbed the Bolton vs. Wigan game via osmosis and I listened to the announcers going wild, I baked a whole entire Funfetti cake all by myself!

Additional Note to Reader: There's more about what I really think about European soccer announcers coming soon in a future post.

I
even searched You Tube for an instructional video on icing and learned this "basket weave technique. The icing got a little melted, so it isn't perfect. but it's not bad for a first try.The Hub said that it's almost too pretty to eat!

Till next time,
Bon Voyage!
